Massage is the treatment and practice of soft tissue manipulation with physical, functional, and in some cases psychological purposes and goals. The word comes from the French massage "friction of kneading," or from Arabic massa meaning "to touch, feel or handle" or from Latin massa meaning "mass, dough".
Massage therapy is a comprehensive intervention involving a range of techniques to manipulate the soft tissues and joints of the body. The purpose of massage therapy is to prevent, develop, maintain, rehabilitate or augment physical function or relieve pain
Massage therapy removes stress and tension, relieving associated headaches and muscular aches & pains. By encouraging the body's own healing processes to act, massage therapy, reduces injury healing time. Massage therapy aids in the healing process from injury or over-use, and is an excellent form of preventive health care.
A Registered Massage Therapist is an individual who has undergone extensive competency-based training including a comprehensive clinical component. They have successfully completed a written and practical examination from and have been registered by the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario. |
